I built this bike back in 1990 in the paradise state of Hawaii (sea level) and originally installed a more radial camshaft and 38mm Mikuni Flat Slides...no dyno available at the time...so I had a drag racer friend of mine do a test ride on it to get his impressions...he said it was too explosive on the street...wrapped throttle open in 3rd gear at 100 mph and front came up...fastest street bike he’s ever ridden...I’ve since de-tuned to milder Cam Motion cam and more streetable 38mm CV’s...needless to say...bike is still awesome even at 5200 feet where we now reside...heart rate still increases just preping to ride her..takes 15-20 minutes to settle back down...maybe it’s my age..(54)...I wish my arteries flowed a well as the CV’s...Sent pics and specs to Nick Ienatsch a couple of years after it was built to see if he would like to do a reader’s/ride article...said he would love to however the requirement is that he trash the bike around for a while and in order to do that he would have to fly over to Hawaii to do it...his boss wouldn’t buy him a ticket...Until I found you guys on the 'Net' we’ve been tucked out of sight here in Boulder, Colorado for the last 6 years...not completely tucked out of sight...it’s my weekend blaster ZX11/V-Max eater...call sign is BLUBYU.

Frame and complete motor is powder coated...however...since the original body paint was near mint...I kept it that way as an excellent link to the past...I do however have several extra body components and I’m considering a wild paint job on the spares...I have several Japanese cycle mags that have some awfully wild Kat pics..it’s too bad they don’t show up on the Net....Well there you have it...I think I covered everything...except history...how it all started etc...but that might be boring to some. Questions...please don’t hesitate to call or E-mail...enjoy talking to guys who love Katanas. By the way...my stable consists of the one above plus an ‘83 GS 750 SD (Katana), ‘81 GS1000S, ‘86 GS1150, ‘86 XN85, ‘95 Goldwing SEL, ‘97 Bandit 1200, ‘96 XR250, & last but not least ‘69 Honda Mini 50cc (to teach grand kids (4) on.)

The Bandit is undergoing some major surgery at the moment...if you have any interest in it, I should have pics and specs in a couple of weeks. Ride fast, hard and safe.

Sincerely,
Steve Lam
